This beautiful south-facing sandy beach is often overlooked for the more popular and accessible beaches of Scousburgh (Spiggie) and St Ninian's Ayre, but it is a real gem. You'll often see seals bathing on the sand from the road above, which connects Bigton to Scousburgh on the west side of the South Mainland.
Please note: the seals are best observed from the road as they retreat to the water if disturbed. It's best not to venture onto the beach if there are seals hauled up as this can cause them distress. We're lucky here as there are plenty of other beaches to choose from in the South Mainland – the difficulty is picking which one!
