Whalsay Heritage and Community Centre aims to preserve, protect and advance the heritage and traditions of the island of Whalsay. Founded in 2006, the organisation has been growing and expanding ever since.
Each year, alongside the permanent exhibitions, the centre offers seasonal exhibitions, and community events, with a focus on passing on an appreciation of Whalsay culture and heritage, and the aim is to give visitors an enriching, exciting and educational experience.
The centre has two permanent exhibitions – ‘Whalsay’s fishing heritage from the 13th century to modern times’ and 'The Lairds of Whalsay’. The seasonal exhibition in 2022 is lace kitting.
