This is the main beach in Lerwick and is situated in the Sound area of the town. It's popular with locals during the summer months and the gentle sloping sands are ideal for sea swimmers and paddlers. You'll often spot a nosy seal or two bobbing in the shallows, too!
If you're staying in the town, there's a great walk around the Ness of Sound, which starts at the Fjara cafe, goes along the Sea Road, around the headland and ends at the Sands of Sound. On your way you'll see the remains of a Second World War coastal battery, which was designed to guard the approach to Lerwick Harbour during the war.
