Joanna Hunter Knitwear

Joanna began her business back in 1999 and runs the retail shop Ninian, in Lerwick, alongside her knitwear brand. She researches old Fair Isle patterns and designs as well as following contemporary knitwear trends to create a unique collection of Shetland knitwear, mainly made from Shetland wool, lambswool and cotton. Anderson & Co

One of Shetland's longest running businesses, Anderson & Co first opened its doors in Lerwick in 1873. The family-run business continues to this day selling a vast range of traditional Shetland knitwear both in-store and online. BAKKA

BAKKA produce contemporary Fair Isle knitwear. Designer Mary Macgregor moved to Shetland in 2010 and all her designs are inspired from old garments in the collections of the museums of Shetland and Edinburgh. There are three branches to the business; the main collections which are produced in 100% superfine merino, hand-knitted hats and lace shawls in Shetland wool, and knitting patterns for traditional Fair Isle keps.

Nielanell

Niela Kalra is a textile designer specialising in contemporary knitwear, homeware and accessories. Born in Canada, Niela worked as a lawyer in Elgin before moving to Shetland to pursue her passion for textiles.
