For the tenth year running, virtual sail racing platform Sailonline.org is bringing its fleet to Shetland in time for the Up Helly Aa celebrations.
The community-owned navsim game provides a realistic, entertaining and educational platform for those who love the sea and sailing. It has hosted Up Helly Aa races since 2010. With features such as realistic boat performance, state of the art wind forecasts and real-time chat, users have the ultimate online sail racing experience.
This year’s Up Helly Aa race starts today, Monday 27 January, departing Aberdeen at 11am. The route is unchanged from previous years and takes the yachts past Inverness, a mark in the Moray Firth, past Fair Isle and then around several of the islands of Shetland to the finish in Lerwick Harbour. The Lerwick Up Helly Aa festival this year is on Tuesday, 28 January.
