Shetland will appear on on a Travel Channel programme called 'Cruising the Fjords' tomorrow, Sunday 25th November 2012 at 8pm. The TV crew visited Shetland in summer and they really loved the islands.
Julie Peasgood throws her expectations of an over 50's cruise overboard on the Saga Sapphire after discovering an elegant
ship designed to bring back a sense of classic British travel.
Julie's voyage begins in Dover before stopping off in the Norwegian port of Bergen. Back on ship, the next port of call is to Lerwick and a chance to join in the annual Fiddle Festival and experience just how many strings to its bow the Shetland Islands have. From here the course to Iceland traces ancient Viking routes across the ocean to the land of fire and ice.
There Julie explores the vast and dramatic landscape of a country still developing, from the rugged East coast, with its waterfalls and wildlife, to just below the Arctic Circle where the towns are built on lava fields and near bubbling geysers, before ending her cruise in the party capital of Reykjavik.
