The new exhibition opening in Da Gadderie this weekend showcases the photography talents of the Islesburgh Photographic Club.
The exhibition comprises some eighty images from the length and breadth of Shetland; from South Light Fair Isle to Muckle Flugga. The collection shows some of the iconic views of Shetland, and some of the less well known views which perhaps require a walk for an hour or so to reach. It has coastal scenes, landscapes and townscapes. It has some of our favourite birds, animals and flowers. It has some of our favourite activities and hobbies. Club spokesman Stuart Hubbard said:
We love to photograph Shetland, because the light here has such special qualities. The extended periods of dawn and dusk produce remarkable vistas, although most of our members prefer the dusk photography to the dawn. In our collection we have chosen as wide a variety of locations as we can, so we hope that everybody who stays here, either resident or as a tourist, will recognise somewhere that they have seen and love.
People love too the wildlife that lives in Shetland so our members have captured images of our native birds, mammals and indeed insects along with some of the wild flowers that grace our island. We hope you will find some time to visit the gallery and that our images will bring a smile to your face.
The photographic club has been running continuously since the 1940’s. The club regularly mounts exhibitions in Shetland and enters competitions with other photographic clubs from as nearby as Orkney to as far away as New Zealand. The Club meets on the first Wednesday of the month in Islesburgh Community Centre in the evenings and will open its doors again after the Summer break on Wednesday 7th October. Beginners and experienced photographers alike are welcome.
The Gadderie exhibition runs from 25th July to 20th September.
