Airline adds extra services between Sumburgh and Glasgow airports
Flybe franchise partner, Loganair, will be adding an extra four services between Shetland and Glasgow from Monday, November 4 this year, adding over 130 seats to their schedule.
The carrier currently operates a daily flight to Glasgow from Shetland, and this increase in flights between the two airports follows a surge in advance bookings for Flybe.
The new services will operate to the following timetable:
Sumburgh – Glasgow
Monday and Friday 15:20-16:45
Glasgow – Sumburgh
Monday and Friday 10:45-12:15
These flights are conveniently timed to enhance connections from Shetland via Glasgow to Birmingham, Manchester and Southampton, as well as improving connections to East Midlands.
In addition, Loganair's codeshare relationship with British Airways ensures there will be links between Shetland and London with Heathrow, Gatwick and London City flights all connecting to the current and new Glasgow services.
The new flights will go on sale on Monday, August 19, for travel from Monday, November 4.
The additional capacity on the Glasgow route follows Loganair's decision earlier this year to add over 2,000 seats on their Shetland to Aberdeen service between September and December, providing 64 flights per week on this busy air route.
Commenting on the extra rotations, Loganair's chief operating officer Phil Preston, said: “We are very pleased to be able to offer these additional services between Shetland and Glasgow, expanding the link between the two regions.
“Glasgow has the best retail district in the UK outside of London, and these flights will definitely be a hit with Shetlanders looking to have a city break on the mainland.
“As an airline, we continually monitor customer demand and endeavour to manage our schedule accordingly, so we are sure these extra seats will be quickly snapped up by customers.
“Shetland residents will also benefit from the Air Discount Scheme, meaning they can enjoy a city break at a reduced price.”
Inglis Lyon, managing director of Sumburgh Airport operator HIAL, said: “We are delighted that Loganair is to increase choice for passengers flying between Glasgow and Shetland. These additional flights will provide a welcome boost for inbound business on Shetland which in turn will help support economic development across the northern isles. The new flights will also offer more flexibility for passengers connecting through Glasgow for domestic or international flights.”
